Stepping up his attack on the BJP-led government at the Centre, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused the ruling dispensation of misusing the probe agencies and claimed that the entire ‘liquor scam’ is fake.
“We are seeing across the country how by filing false cases, Opposition leaders are being targeted. Efforts are being made to intimidate and make the Opposition parties inactive,” he said in an apparent reference to the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh.
Sanjay Singh was arrested by the ED following a marathon interrogation in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor scam.
“From the very beginning, I have been saying not a single penny was exchanged. Yesterday, the judge (the Supreme Court) was asked to show proof, but they didn’t have even a single evidence. The entire liquor scam is false,” he declared.
Kejriwal, who is also AAP’s national convenor, further said, “Not only Opposition leaders, businessmen across the country are also being targeted. Many of them had shut their businesses. The ED, the CBI, and the IT are being let loose against them. There is an atmosphere of fear. This is not good for the country.”
“Neither they will do any work, nor will they allow others to do any work. The country can only progress if this fear ends,” he said.
The AAP had earlier termed the arrest of its MP a manifestation of an extreme vendetta.
Meanwhile, the ED has reportedly summoned three associates of the parliamentarian to join the probe into the case.
The AAP MP is in ED’s remand till October 10.
