Eight killed as Tata Sumo plunges into gorge in Kishtwar

Atleast eight persons, including four women, were killed on Wednesday when an overloaded Tata Sumo taxi plunged into a gorge in Jammu’s Kishtwar district.
Several other passengers were injured and rescue operations have been launched by the Army, district administration and locals.
Reports said that the mishap happened in Rachal area of Marwah in Kishtwar District.
The accident took place when the Tata Sumo in which they were traveling plunged into the Renie Nallah resulting into the death of the victims on spot.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav said that the ill-fated vehicle was on its way from Marwah to Renie. Army, police and locals were engaged in rescue operations.
Injured persons were being shifted to the hospital at Marwah.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, in whose constituency the area falls, tweeted; “Just now spoke to DC Kishtwar Dr Devansh Yadav after receiving the news of an unfortunate Tata Sumo road accident in Marwah area. 8 persons have died on the spot, rescue operations in progress to recover other persons. All possible assistance being provided, further help as needed would also be made available. My sincere condolences to bereaved families”.
This is the third major accident within a week in the Chenab Valley area. Four officials of PWD, including the superintending engineer, executive engineer and an assistant executive engineer of Doda district were killed two days ago when the official car in which they were travelling plunged into a gorge near Assar.
Four youths were earlier washed away when their car rolled into the River Chenab.
