Educationists’ forum urges CM to take control of the higher edn system

The Educationists’ Forum rued the sad state of affairs in the higher education system, especially at the public universities in the state. Some of the universities have been ‘killed’, few others “maimed” and a large number made dysfunctional. The chancellor has foisted chaos and illegal rein of his “authorized” persons masquerading as vice-chancellors for the past nine months, a category unknown in the statutes.

The forum urged the chief minister and higher education to steer the higher education system as per the laid down legal provisions and immediately declare the “term” of the authorized VCs as over.

Prof Om Prakash Mishra, on behalf of the forum said, “The legal challenges to chancellor’s authority remain pending decision and disposal in the Supreme Court. Only new dates for hearing are announced every time the matter comes up. In the meanwhile, the chancellor happily disregards the orders of the Supreme Court. There are no vice-chancellors in any of the 31 public universities. Since the six month period is over even for the illegal category of “authorized” VCs, WB government must immediately act under the 2017 Act and the 2019 Rules and take immediate action.”
