Months after Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel warned Central agencies of dire consequences, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday raided premises belonging to 13 Congress leaders considered close to Baghel.

Irked over the continued hounding, Congress party slammed the move and staged a protest against the Central agency at its Raipur office.

As was widely anticipated for a long time, ED sleuths raided premises belonging to Congress leaders this morning. According to the information received, the federal agency raided residential premises of Congress treasurer Ram Gopal Aggarwal, Congress MLA Devendra Yadav, Parliamentary Secretary Chandradev Rai, spokesperson RP Singh, Baghel loyalist Vinod Tiwari and Sunny Aggarwal.

Earlier, the federal agency had conducted several raids on several high profile government officials and businessmen close to CM Baghel. Most of them including Baghel’s powerful Deputy Secretary Saumya Chaurasia have been languished in jail after ED arrested them for money laundering and extortion of levy on coal transportation.

The raids assume significance in the backdrop of Congress party’s 85th plenary session to be held this week. The three-day event will begin on 24.

Youth Congress and NSUI workers held demonstrations against the raids and clashed with the CRPF jawans guarding the raid parties. This is for the first time that the entire Congress leadership came out in open to defend Chhattisgarh government and Bhupesh Baghel since central agencies began their operation in July, 2022.
