Gyanesh Kumar takes charge as Chief Election Commissioner
Gyanesh Kumar took over as the 26th Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Wednesday and said the Election Commission of India was, is and will always be with the voters.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday wrote to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi over the issues raised by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and asked to inquire into the matter.

In a letter addressed to the Delhi CEO, Ajoy Kumar, Principal Secretary of the ECI wrote, “Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi sought an appointment with the Hon’ble Commission vide letter dated January 8 and accordingly, a delegation of AAP met the Commission today at 03:00 pm. ”

Kumar informed that the delegation raised certain allegations of violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) against BJP candidate from New Delhi Assembly constituency Parvesh Verma. They also raised allegations of additions and deletions in the electoral roll of the New Delhi Assembly seat

The senior official of the poll panel said the copy of complaint by former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal against Verma, was also submitted to the Commission.
“I am directed to request you to get the complaint inquired into, ascertain the actual facts and take immediate appropriate action in accordance with the provisions of MCC, electoral laws and the extant guidelines of the ECI,” Kumar said.
The senior poll panel official also asked the CEO to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) to the poll panel.
