Northern Army Commander asks troops to remain alert during anti-terrorist ops

Says there has been a marked improvement in the security situation in the Kashmir valley
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police SP Vaid on Tuesday said the current month witnessed a drastic decrease in the number of Kashmiri youth joining terror outfits and there was a marked improvement in the security situation in the Kashmir valley.
Vaid was talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the passing-out-cum- attestation parade at the police training institute at Vijaypur near here.
Replying to queries about the reported increase in the number of youth picking up the gun, Vaid said: “This month there was a drastic decrease in the number of local youths joining militancy.”

He said several youth after picking up the gun have returned home following appeals by their parents and efforts of the security forces.
Replying to another question about the recent arrest of four newly recruited Al-Badr terrorists who were on their way to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) for arms training, the DGP said “four lives and four families have been saved from tragedy”.
The DGP said there were reports of armed terrorists waiting at the launching pads along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) to infiltrate in to India, but the Army was vigilant and was thwarting such attempts.
He was hopeful that the situation in the valley would further improve.
