Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to the electorate in Bhadohi to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reiterating his government’s conviction on triple talaq.

“I would like to tell the Muslim sisters of Bhadohi and across the nation – several countries don’t have the provision for Triple Talaq. We want to give the same rights to our Muslim sisters which have been provided to the sisters in Muslim countries,” he said in this Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh which has a sizeable Muslim community.

“We don’t disrespect anyone’s religious faith; we just follow the Constitution. The Constitution provides for equal rights to both men and women,” the PM told supporters at the election rally.

He also underlined how his government ensured the release of 850 Indians lodged in Saudi Arabian jails.

“850 people of our country were locked up in jails of Saudi Arabia. Its Crown Prince was visiting India. Month of Ramzan is approaching. I requested him to release them so that they come home for Ramzan. He accepted my proposal and released them even before Ramzan,” the PM said.

Lashing out at the opposition alliance, PM Modi said that ‘mahamilawati’ parties do not want to acknowledge India’s growing strength in the international arena.

“What shall I say about the ‘mahamilawati’ parties that do not want to acknowledge India’s growing strength in the international arena?” he said.

“The country has seen four types of parties, four types of governance, four types of political culture. First – Naampanthi, second – Vaampanthi, third – Daam aur Damapanthi, and the fourth which has been brought by us – Vikaspanthi,” the PM said.

At the rally, the PM accused the Congress of taking interest in the welfare of party leaders and close family members only.

The PM also underlined that during his long stint as chief minister and five years as prime minister, there was not a blot of corruption on his image.

Bhadohi is famous for its carpets. It goes to polls on 12 May in the sixth phase.
