With an alarming increase in Dengue cases, the Uttarakhand health department is facing huge challenge to combat the mosquito-borne disease in the hill state. According to official data, 2,595 Dengue cases have been so far registered in Uttarakhand. Dehradun district is worst affected, followed by Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital.
Most of the government and private hospitals are packed with patients suffering from Dengue fever. In view of increasing cases of Dengue, three additional Dengue Elisa centres have been established in Uttarakhand. At present the test facilities are available at four government hospitals in Dehradun district, one in Haridwar, two government hospitals in Nainital, one hospital in Udham Singh Nagar and one hospital in Pauri district.

The situation is out-of-control as a record 1,434 Dengue cases were recorded in Dehradun in 2016, this time the number has increased to 1,788. The available data was compiled from four government hospitals. Information about the number of Dengue patients hospitalized in private hospital of Dehradun is not available.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has advocated about making concrete efforts for control and effective prevention of Dengue disease in the state. The CM asked all the district magistrates to work with vigilance and coordination in this regard. Rawat has also for spreading public awareness towards combating this disease and pay special attention to cleanliness and hygiene.

With widespread cases of Dengue, Uttarakhand Congress has launched an attack on Trivendra Rawat government. Agitated Congress workers staged protest at DG Health office in Dehradun on Saturday.
