The Delhi Metro police has busted a hoax call a day before the nation celebrates its 77th Independence Day. Amid the beefed up security of the occasion, the Delhi metro staff on August 13 at about 8:22 PM, a bomb blast call was received at the Kashmere Gate Metro Police Station from the CISF Control Room that a bomb is planted in the Kashmere Gate Metro Station from a mobile phone. After receiving this call, keeping in view the forthcoming Independence Day Celebration-2023, G-20, and the sensitivity of the call a special investigation team was formed, and the investigation was taken up immediately.
All the Delhi Metro Police and BDS staff were alerted and an intensive joint search operation was carried out with BDT of Metro & CISF teams to trace the planted bomb in the metro station. But, no bomb or suspicious article was found in the metro premises. A raiding team was formed to nab the accused person. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Metro Dr. G. Ram Gopal Naik informed that a FIR has been registered against him on account of Section 505(1)(b) in The Indian Penal Code for disrupting tranquility and causing panic in the public. “Anybody causing such diversion of the resources or involved in any activities will be dealt with promptly.”, DCP said
Initially, the caller’s phone was switched off. But, with technical surveillance and analysis of the phone number of the accused, his identity was established and his personal detail was obtained. The team continued their efforts to contact the caller. After some time, the caller picked up the phone and the team immediately retrieved his personal details. The raiding team immediately located his address and arrested the accused person.

The accused person has been thoroughly interrogated during, which he revealed that he was working in a spare part shop at Church Road, Kashmiri Gate, Delhi. He informed that he made the hoax bomb blast call to create fear or alarm in the public on the occasion of Independence Day in an inebriated condition. The police have recovered the phone used to make the phone call. “The arrested has been produced in the court of the magistrate and will be dealt with firmly, DCP of Metro said.
A day after witnessing a little improvement, Delhi's air pollution levels registered a marginal spike of 22 points on Friday, reaching the upper end of the 'very poor' category recording average Air Quality Index value at 393.
