A day before the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Arichal Munai, the origin point of Ram Setu, near Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu.
The prime minister also performed ‘anulom-vilom’, a breathing Yoga asana, at the Arichalmunai point.
According to ancient Hindu texts, Dhanushkodi is the place where Lord Ram vowed to defeat demon king Ravana and proceeded to Lanka along with his brother Laxman and ‘Vanar Sena’.
The prime minister, who is visiting temples with a Ramayana connection ahead of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir ceremony, will perform Puja at Sri Kothandarama Swamy temple.
Kothandarama or Ram with a bow is located in Dhanushkodi. According to mythology, Ravana’s brother Vibhishana met Lord Ram for the first time at this place only.
Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his two-day tour of Tamil Nadu, visiting major temples, beginning with prayers at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Tiruchirappalli.
During the visit, the prime pinister was blessed by an elephant named Andal in the temple premises who also played a mouth organ.
PM Modi listened to verses from ‘Kambaramayanam’, the 12th century epic written by Tamil poet Kambar at the temple. The Prime Minister was presented with a gift by the priests to be taken to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The ‘Kambaramayanam’ is one of the very old versions of Ramayan. It is said that the poet Kambar had first publicly presented his Ramayana at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple and won the hearts of the people.
The Prime Minister held a roadshow in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu and was welcomed by people with showering of petals. He reached Rameswaram to perform darshan and pooja in Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple.
Modi is currently observing an 11-day Anushthan till the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of Shri Ram Lalla in Ayodhya on 22 January.
