Cyclone toll in Tamil Nadu goes up to 6

The toll in Cyclone Mandous that crossed the north Tamil Nadu coast near Mamallapuram during early hours of Saturday, with fierce winds and heavy downpour, has gone up to 5.
Over 500 trees were felled while the Chennai city experienced power disruptions till Saturday afternoon in many areas. Of the 5 persons, who died, 4 were electrocuted in different locations.
Two persons, a 42-year-old woman and her 30-year-old relative were electrocuted when they set foot on a high-tension cable which snapped in Madipakkam, late on Friday night, The victims were Lakshmi, 42 who is a construction labourer and her nephew Rajendran, 30.
An employee of an IT firm died in in a bizarre incident, when a glass piece from a window, which broke due to heavy winds, pierced his stomach. Vijayakumar, who was on night duty at his office died as there was no one to provide him first aid or other medical assistance at  night, police said.
Two young men from Bihar were electrocuted in a village near Sriperumbudur, when they accidentally stepped on a live wire. They were identified as Niranjankumar, 22 and Sugankumar, 24.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin, said the State had recovered quickly, thanks to precautionary measures taken. Only a few lives were lost despite massive winds and heavy rains, he added.
