As the early trends of counting in the Karnataka Assembly polls show a bend towards the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said an alliance with the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) was possible.
“We will discuss the issue with the high command. I am going to meet Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ashok Gehlot and we will discuss,” Kharge said.
But he quickly added that it was too early to predict the outcome of the Assembly elections that took place on 12 May.

BJP is currently leading in 89 seats, Congress in 51 and JD(S) in 35 seats. BSP, KPJP, and Independent were leading in one seat each.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah is reportedly trailing in Chamundeshwari, while he is leading in Badami.
BJP chief ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa is leading in Shikaripura.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Ashok Gehlot also said the grand old party was open to an alliance with the JD(S) but was at the same time confident of winning the Karnataka Assembly election.
Gehlot made the remark as vote count in the state put the ruling Congress at the second place after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the JD-S at the third spot.
Following the trends, BJP workers began to celebrate outside party office in Bengaluru.
