After violence during ‘Bharat Bandh’ rocked many parts of India, BJP President Amit Shah in a series to tweets slammed the Congress and accused the party of ignoring Dr BR Ambedkar.
Launching a tirade against the Congress, Amit Shah said that the party which had indulged in mocking the DNA of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the same party which ignored Dr BR Ambedkar.
Congress, which is mocking the DNA of PM @narendramodi is the same party which: Defeated Dr. Ambedkar not once but twice. Made flimsy excuses to ensure his portrait was not placed in the Central Hall. Denied him a Bharat Ratna. India has seen through their negative politics!, said Shah in a tweet.
In a series of tweets, BJP chief Amit Shah that at every juncture, BJP stands “shoulder to shoulder with the Dalit community”, while adding “Modi Government’s commitment to fulfilling Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision is unwavering”.
He also said that the Central government acted “in an immediate and informed manner” and filed a review petition to “protect rights of Dalits”.
Amit Shah said that PM Narendra Modi has met MPs belonging to the SC communities and assured them that their rights will be protected.
Shah further said that the NDA government has actually strengthened the provisions of the Act. This was done in line with our commitment to the welfare of SC & ST communities.
While attacking the Congress, Amit Shah said that parties who made “crores of innocent people” suffer, “owe our Dalit sisters and brothers an apology for their misdeeds”.
Amit Shah assured his “Dalit sisters and brothers” that BJP will continue on their efforts to fulfill their aspirations and dream.
At least nine persons were killed and hundreds injured on Monday in violence across several states as protesters blocked trains, clashed with police and set afire private and public properties, including police posts, during a nationwide bandh called by Dalit groups, officials said.
Thousands were detained following widespread incidents of arson, firing and vandalism across over ten states, several of them being BJP-ruled, including Madhya Pradesh where at least six persons died during the protests against the alleged dilution of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Two persons died in Uttar Pradesh and one in Rajasthan, according to officials there. Other states hit with violence included Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi. Those arrested included a former BSP MLA in UP.
Curfew was imposed in several places, while the Union Home Ministry, which rushed 800 anti-riot policemen to MP and UP, asked all states to take preventive steps and maintain public order to ensure safety of lives and property. The Army and paramilitary forces were also put on standby in Punjab.
