A delegation of the Congress party including senior party leaders Mukul Wasnik and Salman Khurshid on Thursday met the Election Commission of India (ECI) and submitted a set of complaints over alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Informing that a few issues that they have taken up have already been acted upon, Khurshid expressed “hope that the poll panel will work as per the constitutional rights that it has.”

In one of the complaints, the Congress accused the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of promoting a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The video in question showcases Narendra Modi wearing the Army uniform and interacting with Defence Personnel during the festivals. It is clear that the said video is nothing but an attempt by Narendra Modi and BJP, to use the defence personnel as a tool for their election campaign in the Lok Sabha elections,” reads the complaint.

It added: “In fact, the BJP is now using the social media handle of Union Ministries to further the electoral interests of Narendra Modi and BJP.”
