Congress creates uproar in MP assembly, Guv leaves his address incomplete

MP Governor Mangubhai Patel

The opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh created a ruckus during Governor Mangubhai Patel’s address to the state assembly on Wednesday alleging that the ”BJP state government was making the Governor lie by providing him wrong information and misleading figures”.

The Governor did not complete his address and left the Assembly amidst the relentless din. Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar said the unread part of the Governor’s address would be deemed as read.

The opposition MLAs waved copies of the BJP’s 2023 Assembly poll manifesto and raised slogans in the House. Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar alleged that the ruling party did not make any mention in the Governor’s address about its poll promises of providing domestic gas cylinders at Rs 450, giving support price of Rs 3100 on paddy and Rs 2700 on wheat besides other promises.

Subsequently, the Congress staged a walkout.

Later the speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till Thursday morning.

Earlier in the day, the 13-day budget session of the Assembly began with the Governor’s address. The Governor mentioned that all places in Madhya Pradesh where Lord Ram and Lord Krishna visited, would be developed as religious spots. He added that helicopter services would be started for pilgrims desiring to visit religious spots.

Patel said more than 50 lakh people have benefited through the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra. He expressed the hope that the upcoming Ken-Betwa and Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal river linking projects would prove to be extremely beneficial to the people of the state.

Lauding the ‘PM Janman Yojana’, Patel said more than 11 lakh tribals of Special status belonging to Baiga, Sahariya and Bharia tribes in the state would benefit from the scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to address a gathering in tribal-dominated Jhabua district on 11 February, which would signal the launch of the BJP’s Lok Sabha campaign in MP.
