The Congress on Thursday released the first list of 34 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to a communiqué issued by Congress general secretary in-charge of Organisation K C Venugopal, the party’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has selected the candidates.

The Congress fielded former Arunachal Pradesh minister Kumar Waii as its nominee from Bameng Assembly constituency.

Among other prominent candidates included former state ministers Takam Pario and Tanga Byaling. They will contest from Palin and Nacho assembly seats respectively.
As per the list of candidates, the party fielded Sanhey Phuntsok against BJP nominee and Chief Minister Pema Khandu from Mukto constituency.
The Congress is yet to announce the names of candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Earlier, the BJP released the list of 60 candidates for the Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh, including Khandu from Mukto, the constituency which he currently represents.
The party also announced the name of Union minister Kiren Rijiju and former state president Tapir Gao from Arunachal West and Arunachal East parliamentary seats, which they currently represent for the general elections.
The Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will be held simultaneously in the frontier state on 19th April.
In the 2019 Assembly polls, the BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 41 seats.
