Condolences pour in as 39 Indians missing in Iraq declared dead

Politicians across the country on Tuesday expressed grief over the death of 39 Indians kidnapped by the Islamic State terror group (ISIS) in Iraq’s Mosul in 2014.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the 39 Indians had been killed by the ISIS as the DNA of the victims have matched with their respective kin.

Sushma Swaraj further said that the dead bodies will be brought back by Minister of State for External Affairs General VK Singh in a special airplane.

“The special plane will first land at Amritsar where the dead bodies of 31 people will be handed over to their families. The plane will then head for Bihar before landing in Kolkata,” she said
