A civilian was killed on Friday in crossfire between security forces and terrorists at Ganawpura in South Kashmir.
Army spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that at about 3 pm Army troops came under fire from terrorists near Ganawpura orchards.
“Army troops immediately retaliated. In the cross-fire, one civilian unfortunately got injured, who later succumbed to the injury,” he said.
Earlier today, five terrorists of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter with the security forces in the Kiloora forest area of Shopian in south Kashmir.
Colonel Kalia said that bodies of four terrorists along with their weapons were recovered this morning.
One terrorist was eliminated on Friday when the security forces came under their fire. The encounter started yesterday when the security forces cordoned the area following reports of a group of LeT hiding in the area.
Meanwhile, an officer of the BSF was injured on Friday evening when Pakistan snipers targeted him in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district.
The injured officer has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector SK Mishra of 126 Batallion of BSF. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.
