The accolade for Garg highlights his courage and valor during the anti-Maoist operation in Bijapur district, involving a significant firefight and the seizure of ammunition and weapons leading to the neutralization of 10 Maoists.
During his tenure as the Police Chief in Bijapur, a joint operation by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) under his leadership targeted armed Maoists in the jungles of Bodega in Bhairamgarh region. The successful encounter on February 7, 2019, resulted in the neutralization of 10 Maoists.
This third recognition underscores Mohit Garg’s outstanding service and leadership, not only in Naxal encounters but also in other regions. The Governor of Chhattisgarh, Vishwa Bhushan Harichandan, will present the award to him in Raipur.
In a discussion with The Statesman, Mohit shared insights, stating, “During my tenure in Bijapur District, my dedicated force and I conducted numerous operations against the Maoists, but this particular operation holds a special place for which we are being honored with this prestigious award.”
Taking place just after the monsoon season, the operation presented formidable challenges, navigating swollen rivers and streams.
Garg expressed profound relief that despite neutralizing 10 Maoists, no casualties occurred among the forces. Looking ahead, Garg reflected, “With great honors come increased responsibilities.”
He underscored that receiving the President’s Police Medal is not only a personal honor but a testament to the commitment of him and his police colleagues to continue the mission of eradicating Maoists from the land of Chhattisgarh.
