Slamming the Union government for the increase in ceasefire violations at the India-Pakistan border, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday said the Centre has failed to give a befitting reply to the nerighbouring country.
“This is a government which boasted about the strategic surgical strikes. They are willing to take the credit when something good happens, but they remain silent when things are going badly,” Tharoor told the media outside Parliament House.
The cross-border surgical strike was carried out by Indian forces in the backdrop of the September 18 terror attack on an army camp in Uri town of Jammu and Kashmir, in which 19 Indian soldiers were killed.
On September 29, Indian troops went across the Line of Control (LoC) and destroyed several terror launchpads.
Tharoor further said: “Lives are being lost, our citizens are in danger. They are suffering from these repeated ceasefire violations. But the tragedy is that our government is entirely absent without leave,” he added.
In the latest ceasefire violation that took place on Sunday, four Indian soldiers, including a 22-year-old Captain, were killed and four other persons were injured in Rajouri district.
Those who died included Captain Kapil Kundu, who would have celebrated his 23rd birthday on February 10. Captain Kundu hailed from Gurugram district of Haryana and is survived by his mother Sunita.
The other martyrs were Rifleman Ramavatar, 27, from Baraka village in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, Rifleman Subham Singh, 23, from Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir and Havilder Roshan Lal, 43, of Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
