Bypolls peaceful in Sitai & Madarihat, few allegations irregularities
The bypolls in Sitai and Madarihat Assembly segments of Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts were largely peaceful, barring a few stray incidents.

Union minister of state for home affairs Nisith Pramanik has started campaigning as a BJP candidate for Cooch Behar Lok Sabha seat, showcasing the Prime Minister’s idea ‘Vikshit Bharat’ to motivate young generation as well as new voters.

Mr Pramanik started his campaigning from Mathabhanga area and concluded it at Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar yesterday. He has planned to cover all Assembly segments shortly, showcasing the theme of Vikshit Bharat.

Mr Pramanik is contesting the LS polls second time from Cooch Behar.
The minister came down heavily on the Trinamul Congress as his rival in the forthcoming parliament elections. Mr Pramanik has threatened the TMC leadership pointing out Sandeshkhali issues.
“There are several criminals like Sheikh Shajahan in Bengal under the shelter of Trinamul Congress. We are readying a list of them. Just after the results of Lok Sabha polls, our party workers will nab them from underground,” Mr Pramanik said, adding, “We do not believe in violence. We believe in democracy.”
“We want to drive out misrule from West Bengal,” he said, citing the example of Anubrata Mandal, who is presently behind the bars in Tihar Central Jail.
