The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it mandatory for all affiliated schools to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on 31 October to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
CBSE will also organise ‘run for unity’ at state and district headquarters.
A circular issued by the board said:,”The occasion provides us an opportunity to reaffirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of our country”.

The board has provided a link on its web site for schools to get registered for ‘run for unity’.
It suggested that those schools which could not participate in the events organised at state and district headquarters could organise the event at their own level.
Schools have been instructed to take a pledge: “I solemnly pledge that I dedicate myself to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensure internal security of my country.”
