When the authorities reached the hostel on Thursday to assess the damage, they were surprised to find half-burnt currency notes, along with huge cash, admit cards for NEET PG examination and OMR Sheets.

The room was allotted to medical student Ajay Kumar. He continues to stay in the hostel even after successfully completing his studies. He has also been served several notices to vacate the room.

Speculations are rife that Ajay used to hire MBBS doctors and make them appear in NEET PG and NEET UG examinations as well as MBBS internal exams, in place of the actual candidates.

In 2024, the NEET UG exam in Bihar was marred by a paper leak scandal, which led to multiple arrests. The entire episode highlighted deep-rooted issues within the education system and excessive control of the paper leak mafia over exams.

The PMCH hostel room case has come to light at a time when students in Bihar have been protesting against alleged paper leak and other irregularities in the 70th Combined Competitive Exams (preliminary) conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).

Students have been demanding cancellation of the exam. They have gained significant attention after various political parties extended support. As the students’ movement has intensified, Bihar’s Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms Dilip Kumar Jaiswal assured students that the exam can be cancelled if any irregularity is found.
