Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the prevailing cash crunch and the ATMs going dry. He threw the gauntlet at Modi and said the PM cannot face the Lok Sabha for 15 minutes and stressed that ‘achhe din’ had come for only a handful of people like Nirav Mofi and Mehul Chowksi.

The Congress president, who is on a three-day visit to his parliamentary constituency Amethi, in an informal chat with newspersons said the whole country is again being forced to stand in queues for money.

In a reference to demonetisation, he said Rs 500 and Rs 1000 were taken out from the pockets of the common man and given to Nirav Modi. He alleged that the diamantaire had fled with Rs 30,000 crore and the PM did not utter a word. “Is this Modi’s achhe din,” he said.

Rahul continued with his diatribe against Modi and said the PM will not be able to face the Parliament. The Congress president said he needed just 15 minutes to speak on issues like the Rafale deal or the Nirav Modi issue and emphasised that Modi will not be able to stand up to him.

He alleged that the Rafale deal was a case of direct theft, as “Rs 45,000 crore had been given to an industrialist friend”. On a more personal front, Rahul alleged the PM referred the diamantaire as Nirav and Mehul Chowksi as Mehul Bhai. “And this is a fact”. He sought to know whether good days had come for just a handful of people. “The farmers, the labourers and the poor continued to suffer and it was bad day for them,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Rahul launched about a dozen development schemes, including a community hall in Jagesarpur. Addressing a public meeting there, he mocked at Modi and his ‘chhappan inch ke seena’ statement.

The Congress leader said despite this claim Modi had no place in his heart for the poor and the downtrodden. “It has place for a few rich of the country,” he said. He alleged the Modi government was out to help the industrialists but did nothing to create jobs for the unemployed. The farmers continued to reel under debt.

Referring to the work undertaken by him in his constituency, Rahul said he was unfazed by attempts of others to take credit for the same. The reference was to the Amethi administration which on Monday stopped him from inaugurating a link road connecting the Thauri village to the Kotwa village.
