BRS working president KT Rama Rao has given a call to party workers to protest against the Centre’s allegation that the Telangana government has diverted Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGS) funds to schemes which are not permitted under the guidelines of the central schemes.
The Centre has served notice to the state government to pay Rs151.9 crore for the alleged diversions from the guidelines.

“Instead of appreciating the good work BJP is seeking vengeance and tarnishing the image of the Telangana government. The Centre is raising objections for construction of crop drying platforms under MGNREGS when it has not objected to fish drying platforms constructed by other states under the same scheme,” said Rao in a statement.
He also mentioned that time and again the state government had urged the Centre to link MGNREGS with agricultural works for better utilisation of the scheme but to no avail. He also accused the Centre of watering down the scheme which provides employment to scores of people. Rao said that the BJP government has not done anything for farmers and instead “was targetting the BRS government due to its inability to compete with it when it comes to development in agricultural sector,” said Rao.
BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha also took on the BJP government at the Centre and said “We do not need sleeping chowkidars” who allow corporates to flee the country after duping banks while the government writing off non performing assets of banks. “Targetting farmers and poor people putting taxes on milk and curd this is not the way to lead the country. We demand that the BJP should support the farmers and retain what was given under MGNREGS.”
