With just two days left for the high-voltage polling in the national capital to elect the 17th Lok Sabha, the BJP sharpened its attack on former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi by tweeting a video of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots which includes a clip of Gandhi saying, on the riots, “When a tree falls, the earth shakes.”
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991 by the Tamil Tigers suicide bomber.

The 1984 riots followed the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by two of her Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984. At least 3000 innocent Sikhs were killed, mainly in Delhi and Punjab.
Several Congress leaders have been accused of instigating the mob during the riots.
Titled “this video will shake your spirit”, the clip also shows Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler, Kamal Nath and HKL Bhagat.
The BJP has dragged Rajiv Gandhi’s name on various occasions in the poll season.
Last Saturday, PM Modi while taking a jibe at Congress president Rahul Gandhi at a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh had said that Rajiv Gandhi, who was termed ‘Mr. Clean’ by his courtiers died as a “corrupt” leader.
The comment has earned condemnation from a united opposition and several leaders said the statement lowered the dignity of the PMO.
Doubling down his charges of corruption against Rajiv Gandhi, PM Modi on Monday dared the Congress to fight the elections in the name of the former prime minister.
Again on Wednesday, PM Modi fired another salvo at Rajiv Gandhi saying that he used warship INS Viraat as his “personal taxi” for a holiday when he was the PM.
