Pandemonium was witnessed in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on Thursday after BJP members created a ruckus over Samajwadi Party member Swami Prasad Maurya’s comment on the Pran-Pratishtha of Ramlalla in Ayodhya on January 22.
During the discussion on the Governor’s address, SP leader Maurya said the BJP government was propagating as if Ram had never existed, adding that “Whereas the truth is that Ram had been worshiped for thousands of years.”

Maurya said the Pran Pratishtha programme was of the BJP and they stopped lakhs of devotees from going there.
He raised the question that when Ram was already present then ”what was the need to spend billions of rupees on Pran-Pratishtha?” This comment agitated the BJP members who tried to stop the proceedings of the House and demanded a discussion on Ram Temple. During their protest, the ruling party members said the SP member should approach the High Court regarding this.
The chairman, however, rejected the demand of BJP members to allow a discussion on Ram Temple.
Later, Maurya said the government was yet to appoint the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission. Similarly, reservation was being ignored in the ongoing recruitment in colleges, medical colleges and medical institutions of the state, he added.
