It has been a trend in the Congress to give party tickets to sons or wives the dead MLAs for assembly bypolls in Sujangarh, Ballabgarh, and Sahara assembly constituency since 2018 when the party came to power under Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

However, the Congress won nine times from the Sardarshahar constituency in the assembly elections, while the BJP won only twice, in 1980 and 2008 while the Janata Dal won three times and Lok Dal candidates won once from here in the assembly polls since the first elections held in 1951.
