Bihar floor test: Nitish Kumar wins trust vote amid Opposition walk out

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday won the trust vote by 129 votes as Opposition RJD-Congress-Left alliance MLAs staged a walkout before the voting began. According to reports, at least three RJD MLAs defected and voted in favour of Nitish Kumar-led NDA government.

RJD MLAs Chetan Anand, Neelam Devi, and Prahlad Yadav decided to sit with members of the ruling NDA just before voting on a no-confidence motion against Speaker Awadh Bihari Chaudhary.

Speaking during the debate on trust motion against his government, Nitish slammed the RJD government over its 15-years rule before 2005.

“Since 2005, when I got into power, there has been significant development in Bihar. Before that, his (Tejashwi Yadav’s) father and mother got the opportunity to serve Bihar for 15 years. What did they do? There used to be many conflicts between Hindus and Muslims. But when I came to power, these conflicts stopped,” Nitish Kumar said in the assembly.

Earlier during the debate on the trust motion, Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack on Nitish Kumar and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi if he can guarantee Bihar CM will not flip-flop again.

“Can PM Modi ‘guarantee’ he won’t flip again?” Yadav asked and demanded Nitish Kumar should explain his actions to the people of Bihar.

“When you came out of Raj Bhavan after resigning, you said ”mann nhi lag raha tha’… hum log nachne gaane ke liye thode hai (you said you weren’t ‘enjoying it’… are we there to entertain you)? We were there to support you,” he said in a charged-up speech.

“… but he took oath thrice in a single term. This is something we never saw before,” he added.
