Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ahmed Patel on Wednesday went to meet former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who is currently under judicial custody in Tihar Jail, sources said.
Chidambaram’s son and Congress MP Karti Chidambaram went with them for the meeting, which lasted half-an-hour. Earlier, the Congress leaders had been prevented from meeting Chidambaram.

“Three people had come to meet (P Chidambaram). It was part of a regular meeting,” Tihar Jail Director General Sandeep Goyal told IANS.
The Press Trust of India quoted sources as saying the leaders “discussed the current political situation, including Kashmir, upcoming elections and the economic situation in the country”.
On September 16, Chidambaram met his son Karti Chidambaram and other relatives inside Tihar jail on his 74th birthday.
Chidambaram is being investigated by the CBI and ED in the INX Media case and the Aircel-Marxis case. It is alleged that in 2007, as Finance Minister, he signed off on a huge infusion of foreign funds into INX Media at the instance of his son Karti, who allegedly received kickbacks for playing his part.
Chidambarams were named by INX Media co-founders Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, who are currently in jail in Mumbai in connection with the murder of Indrani’s daughter Sheena Bora.
Chidambaram will be produced before the court by the CBI for next hearing on September 19.
