He demands to know whether his son’s killing will be avenged, to which the military officer assures him that Aurangzeb’s killers will not go unpunished.

“We had expected to celebrate Eid together but Aurangzeb’s killers did not let us,” he said in a lamenting tone.

His father had on 15 June blamed the “weak policy” of the government towards terrorists in Kashmir for the killing of his son, who had been abducted while he was on his way to his home in Poonch to celebrate Eid with his family.

The 24-year-old soldier’s father demanded that politicians and separatists should be thrown out of Srinagar and the army given free hand to comb the entire Valley and eliminate the terrorists.

The bullet-riddled body of rifleman Aurangzeb was found in Pulwama’s Gusoo on 14 June. The soldier was laid to rest with full military honours at his native village in Poonch on 16 June.  Hundreds of people participated in his funeral.

Aurangzeb hailed from a family of soldiers. His father and two uncles had served in the Indian Army. In 2004, one of his uncles was abducted and killed by terrorists.

Aurangzeb’s elder brother is also in the army and presently posted in Pune.

Police suspect that Aurangzeb, was abducted by Naveed, who had two years ago deserted the police with four rifles from Budgam. Aurangzeb’s father said that shortly before his abduction, he informed on phone that he has reached Shopian in South Kashmir and would be with the family in Salani village of Poonch.

During the telephonic conversation, Aurangzeb’s father could hear a commotion from his son’s side for about 10 minutes before his mobile phone got disconnected.
