Among the recent arrests, several were linked to organized plots to incite violence in Assam.

Earlier this year, an individual associated with an Islamic extremist group was apprehended in Morigaon district for suspected recruitment activities.

Additionally, STF operations in Dibrugarh and Karimganj led to the detention of militants reportedly planning subversive activities, including targeting vital installations.

In November 2024, STF operatives seized arms and ammunition in Dhubri district while apprehending two members of a Manipur-based militant group believed to be seeking refuge in Assam amid ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur.

The STF has seized a significant quantity of arms and ammunition during its operations. The recoveries include four rifles and a 7.65 mm pistol, 31 rounds of ammunition, one AK-series round, and 17 bullet pellets.

A grenade with explosives and materials suspected to be used for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Assam has been grappling with multiple security challenges.

The state’s strategic location near international borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan has made it a sensitive area for militant activities.

“These arrests and recoveries are critical to ensuring peace and preventing violence in the state,” Singh stated during the briefing.
