Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that road infrastructure gaps in Assam have been addressed through a series of ongoing development projects with an investment of Rs 1,859 crore.

Providing details on the microblogging site X, he emphasised the government’s commitment to improving road connectivity across the state. Chief Minister Sarma highlighted various schemes aimed at promoting seamless travel and fostering closer ties among communities.

The state government is actively involved in road development initiatives under different schemes to establish a robust network that reduces travel time, enhances accessibility, and stimulates economic development in Assam.

The Chief Minister said that a significant contributor to road infrastructure development is the Assom Mala 1.0 project which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 7, 2021.

He added that the initiative has played a crucial role in the development of key roads such as Palasbari Mirza Chandubi, Nahar Ali, and major bridges over the Dikrong and Subansiri rivers.

“With an investment of Rs 1,859 crore utilised until 2023, Assom Mala 1.0 has substantially improved connectivity in the state,” Sarma tweeted.

Another noteworthy project is the Assam Secondary Roads Improvement Project (ASRIP), which focuses on enhancing road corridors covering a total length of 247 km in 8 packages. Notable roads, including Dhodor Ali, with bridges over Subansiri, have been developed under this project with an investment of ₹380 crore utilised to date, showcasing the government’s commitment to improving secondary road networks.

Addressing the diverse connectivity needs of various regions, the Assam State Roads Transformation Project (ASCCIP) encompasses 6 road corridors covering 312.5 km in 11 packages. The development extends to areas such as Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong, BTR, and Barak Valley. The utilisation of Rs 534 crore until 2023 underscores the success of this initiative in promoting economic cooperation and connectivity.
