Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah has been summoned by the Assam police over allegations of violating the approved route and inciting disruptions in Jorhat town, Upper Assam, during Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra.
The Jorhat Police issued a notice under section 41 (A) CrPc, directing Borah to appear on January 31 at 11 AM. Failure to comply may lead to arrest.

The case, registered in response to incidents during Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra passing through Jorhat district, involved allegations of provocation and damage to public property.
The notice to Borah stated, “The investigation of Jorhat PS Case No. 20/2024 U/S-120(13)/115(11)/143/147/188/283/323/353 IPC R/W Sec. 3 of PDPP Act…revealed reasonable grounds to question you.” The accusations include deviations from the approved path, leading to chaos on January 18, confrontations with law enforcement, and damage to public property.
The Jorhat police initiated a suo motu case against the Nyay Yatra organisers, accusing them of violating the permitted route. The incident prompted chaos, with the yatra deviating from the approved path and clashes with law enforcement. The case, assigned to Jorhat PS, includes charges of criminal conspiracy, abetment of an offense, unlawful assembly, rioting, disobedience to orders by a public servant, false statements, voluntarily causing hurt, assault on a public servant, and relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.
