Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was refused permission to visit Batadrava Than in Nagaon district during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Bordowa ‘Batadrava’ Than is a holy pilgrimage site in Nagaon in Assam. It is located in the birthplace of the great Assamese sant and social reformer Srimanta Sakardev, who at the age of 19, established the Bordowa.
In response to queries on social media about the denial of temple entry to Gandhi, a Twitter user questioned the situation, asking, “How can anyone be stopped from entering a temple? What is happening in Assam?” Sarma’s cryptic reply was, “Ram Rajya.”
Gandhi claimed he was initially barred from visiting Batadrava Than and was only allowed entry after 3 PM on the same day. Allegedly, the Satra authorities had requested him to visit the premises post 3 PM, but Gandhi arrived earlier, leading to a confrontation.
Expressing his disappointment at being denied access, Gandhi questioned, “We want to visit the temple (Batadrava Than). What crime have I committed that I cannot visit the temple?” Confronting a security official on site, Gandhi further inquired, “What is the issue, brother? Can I go and see the barricades? What mistake have I made that I am not allowed inside the temple?”
