The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Tuesday sought three weeks’ additional time from the District Judge’s court here to submit its scientific survey report on the Gyanvapi mosque.
The court will hear the ASI’s plea on Wednesday as it was adjourned for the day on Tuesday due to the death of an advocate.

District Judge Dr Ajay Krishna Vishwavesh had on 21 July this year ordered a survey of the Gyanvapi Complex except the sealed Wuzukhana area. When the ASI started the survey on 24 July, the Anjuman Intejamia Masjid Committee moved the Supreme Court which stayed the survey order and ordered the Masjid Committee to approach the Allahabad High Court.
The High Court heard the arguments of both the parties and on 4 August upheld the order of the District Judge.
The ASI started the survey on 4 August, which continued till the end of October. On 2 November, the ASI told the District Judge’s court that the survey had been completed but additional time was needed to file the report.
The ASI is taking time to prepare the report of the survey which was conducted with the help of GPR technology. The court had extended the deadline twice and the deadline was to end on Tuesday.
