All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi issued an open challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at an event at Santosh Nagar in Hyderabad on Friday, the three-time MP from Hyderabad said, “Modi, RSS, Congress are trying to stop AIMIM from continuing its winning run on the parliamentary seat from Hyderabad. I challenge them to come.”

“I challenge the Prime Minister. Mr. Modi, come contest from this seat. If you can’t come, send your Shah. I also challenge Congress. Even if both these parties contest together they still won’t be able to defeat us,” he said.

“The Hyderabad seat doesn’t belong to the AIMIM or Owaisi but the people who vote for us. Not out of pride, I say this with conviction and belief in Allah that we will win this seat again and again,” asserted Owaisi.

The 49-year-old Owaisi had recently stoked controversy by calling on the Muslim community to vote for Muslim candidates. According to reports, Owaisi said that Muslims must fight back

“I am not asking you to sit in the crowd and cry over Qasim’s death. I am awakening your conscience. Get up and get ready,” Owaisi had said, referring to the man killed in Hapur mob lynching.

Owiasi had earlier rejected the idea of Muslim vote bank. “It is a fact that there has never been a Muslim vote bank. Muslims have always been deceived by saying you have a vote bank,” ANI quoted the AIMIM chief as saying.

Owaisi has repeatedly lashed out at the Congress and the BJP in the past accusing both parties of “hankering for the Hindu vote bank” citing the recently concluded Karnataka elections in which the BJP did not give single a Muslim ticket to contest for assembly elections.

“There’s no Muslim MP in Lok Sabha from the BJP. This clearly shows they are not interested in real political empowerment and development of the Muslim community. The same is with the Congress party,” he said.
