The Indian Army on Thursday rescued 81 students and teachers from a Rajasthan law college who were stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar highway due to snow and landslides.
A defence spokesman said that the Indian Army at Banihal displayed exemplary service and swift action during a road blockade near Banihal due to landslide, stone shooting and heavy snowfall. The Army successfully rescued staff and students from the Law College of Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur (Rajasthan), who were in a state of panic.

Heavy snowfall and roadblocks resulting from landslides due to inclement weather on 21 February left many commuters stranded along the treacherous highway. Among them were 7 university staff and 74 students who found themselves caught in the storm while travelling and needed shelter for the night.

Recognising the critical urgency of the situation, the Indian Army in Banihal prioritised their evacuation, ensuring their safety and well-being. They provided the stranded staff and students with medical assistance, food and warm shelter.
Dr Kalpesh Nikawat, Principal of the Law College, expressed his gratitude to the Indian Army for its swift and decisive action. He commended its unwavering dedication to serving the nation and its citizens, highlighting its valour and readiness to face any challenge.
