Coalition Strains
As Jharkhand prepares for its assembly elections, the complexities of seat-sharing within the INDIA bloc reveal both the strengths and challenges of coalition politics.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders slammed the “hub of terror” comment made by Union Cabinet Minister Girijraj Singh on Thursday.
Reacting to RJD victory in the Araria Lok Sabha byoll on Wednesday, Singh had said that the district bordering West Bengal and Nepal will become a “hub of terror”.
“This is not only a threat to Bihar but also to the country. It will be a hub of terror,” Singh, who is Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, said.

Former Bihar deputy chief minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said that Singh should ask Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to step down if he has no faith in Kumar’s leadership.
“This man is the Central Minister and unfortunately he is not aware that it’s his government in Bihar and Delhi. If he and BJP doesn’t believe in Nitish Kumar’s leadership then why don’t ask him to step down or withdraw ur support. Such a Shame for Nitish Kumar [sic],” tweeted Tejashwi.
Rabri Yadav, too, criticised Singh for the remark and demanded an apology for the “people of Araria”.
“He is frustrated because of the verdict of the people. People of Bihar and UP are showing the path. He should control his tongue and apologise to the people of Araria,” she told reporters adding that people will not forgive BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
On Wednesday, the BJP received a drubbing in all the three Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. While Araria went to RJD, Gorakhpur and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh voted for Samajwadi Party.
