Andhra Pradesh garnered investment commitments worth over Rs 13 lakh crore and employment potential of over six lakhs in a two-day long Global Investor Summit (GIS) at Visakhapatnam.

“Commensurate with the overwhelming business sentiment we have executed 352 MoUs with the investment commitment of Rs 13,05,663 lakh crore and an employment potential of 6.32 lakh,” said Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in his valedictory speech.

In the energy sector alone 40 MoUs were signed for Rs 8,84,823-crore investment creating employment potential of 1.90 lakh families, he went to add. Renewable energy, tourism, IT and ITeS were other key sectors which saw investment commitments.

“I sincerely request all of you to move from the MoU stage to the grounding of your investments in Andhra Pradesh at the earliest. Assuring you all that our government will demonstrate our ‘speed of facilitating businesses’ taking matters forward,” assured Reddy.

He also announced a committee led by the chief secretary, special secretary of industries and officials of the chief minister’s office to follow up on the MoUs signed during the summit.

Addressing the summit Sarbananda Sonowal, Union minister of Ports, shipping and waterways outlined central government’s plans for Vizag port.

“As far as Visakhapatnam port is concerned it has shown a healthy cargo growth over 7.5% in this financial year. Following the directions from the Ministry  the port is in the process of transforming as landlord ports,” said Sonowal.

“The fishing harbour at Visakhapatnam is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 151 crores which  will improve the quality of  life of the local fishing community. The construction of the international cruise terminal with investment of Rs 97 crores in Visakhapatnam port is near completion and is likely to commence by April 2023,” he added.
