Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday urged Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to take up the issue of opening of the corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara with the Pakistan government.

In a letter the Chief Minister said that Kartarpur Sahib, which lies four km westwards from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, on the Pakistan side was one of the most revered religious places for Sikhs as Guru Nanak Dev had spent a large part of his life there.

Referring to the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev being observed in November 2019, the Chief Minister apprised the External Affairs Minister that the Punjab Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution on August 27, seeking an uninterrupted opening of the corridor.

It was at the Kartarpur gurdwara that Guru Nanak Dev spent 18 years of his life till he died in 1539.
