Dismissing Mayawati’s claims that his party broke the alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party after 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said she was making the allegations to hide her shortcomings.
“I was in Azamgarh when the alliance broke. There were BSP leaders on the stage, I asked them why they broke the alliance? But now she is making allegations to hide her shortcomings,” he told the media.

Akhilesh was responding to Mayawati’s statements in which she had said that after losing the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, SP leaders had stopped picking up her calls. She also said that SP people were disappointed with the defeat. BSP got 10 seats while SP just 5.
Mayawati had made this claim in her booklet which was being distributed to officials and workers for the by-elections and 2027 assembly elections recently.
In the 2019 elections, SP and BSP contested the elections in alliance in UP, in which SP got five seats and BSP got 10 seats.
