A man caught on video beating up a woman was arrested on Friday after Home Minister Rajnath Singh directed Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take necessary action.
“I have taken note of a video where a youth has been seen severely beating a woman. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner over the phone and directed him to take necessary action in this regard,” Singh tweeted.
In the video, which has gone viral on social media, a man is seen brutally beating a woman.
Reports say that the police in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar registered an FIR against the man, identified as Rohit Singh Tomar, following a complaint filed by a woman.
According to the police the video was shot on 2 September in Uttam Nagar. Rohit allegedly sent the video to his ex-girlfriend to intimidate her. Reports say that he had been harassing his ex-girlfriend ever since they broke up.
It was the girl who filed the FIR against Tomar, who is the son of a Delhi Police sub-inspector.
The police have filed a case against the accused under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Tomar, who is 21, had recently started working at the BPO where the video was allegedly made.
