The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday interrogated BRS working president KT Rama Rao for seven hours in connection with the Formula E race case. After leaving the ACB office, the BRS cadre gave a rousing welcome to their leader at the party headquarters, carrying him on their shoulders. The former municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) minister has milked the opportunity thrown up by his legal hassles under the Congress government to charge up his party cadres. Meanwhile, special chief secretary Arvind Kumar appeared before the Enforcement Directorate.

After emerging from the ACB interrogation, Rao said that he was repeatedly asked the same set of questions that had been framed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He further said that he also asked ACB officials if they had made any attempt to recover money after the contract was cancelled by the present government.

“Why did you suddenly feel the need to file a case after one year? Rao asked. “I also asked them where the proceeds of the crime are, where the embezzlement is, and where the corruption is. Please show me. This case is a joke, and so is the Chief Minister of Telangana… I will go back whenever they call me and answer all their questions,” Rao said after coming out of the ACB headquarters at Banjara Hills. “They asked over 80 questions and recorded my statement. I kept answering,” Rao said, adding that the Supreme Court will hear the quash petition on 15 January.

Before leaving for the ACB headquarters, KT Rama Rao addressed the media at his residence in Banjara Hills. “In the 10 years of BRS rule, I have not awarded contracts worth Rs 1,137 crore to my brother-in-law or misused power to benefit my son-in-law’s company. Only Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and some of his ministers are capable of such wrongdoings,” he remarked.
