The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday welcomed the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The AAP said the party is fully prepared to contest the elections in collaboration with the INDIA alliance.

In a post on X in Hindi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said: “The dates of Lok Sabha elections in the country have been announced. This is a great festival of democracy. I appeal to all the countrymen that this time vote against dictatorship, vote against hooliganism.”

Kejriwal, who is also the AAP national convenor, further said the Aam Aadmi Party works on the real issues and appealed to the people to vote for AAP candidates.

“Aam Aadmi Party works on the real issues of the people and provides facilities to the public. Wherever Aam Aadmi Party candidates are contesting in the election, strengthen our hands by voting on the broom so that we can work for you with more energy,” he said.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai said, “The Election Commission has announced the Lok Sabha elections 2024 today. The AAP wholeheartedly welcomes the announcement. The AAP, along with the INDIA bloc, is prepared for the Lok Sabha elections.”

Answering media questions, Rai said: “There are elections in Delhi in the sixth phase, even if we were in the third phase, we were ready. We have launched election campaigns wherever we are contesting elections. Election campaigns have been successfully launched in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat. Now that the elections have been announced, we will design the election programme according to the phases and organise Arvind Kejriwal’s meetings, rallies, road shows.”

The General Election for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases from April 19, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced on Saturday. The counting will be held on June 4.
