PM greets Manmohan Singh on his birthday
Economist and former academician, Dr Manmohan Singh, 92, was the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Prime Minister during 2004-2014.
Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu brought the house down at the 84th Congress Plenary held in New Delhi on Sunday with his witty words of praise for former prime minister Manmohan Singh.
Sidhu, who was addressing the session on its second and final day at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, drew applause from Congress leaders and supporters for the manner in which he described Singh.
“By placing my head at your feet, I have taken a dip in the Ganga. Aap Sardar bhi hai aur asardar bhi hai (You are a Sardar and you are effective.),” Sidhu said.

“Jo aapke maun ne kar diya woh BJP ke shor sharabe ne nahi kiya (BJP’s cacophony couldn’t do what your silence did),” he said in praise of the 85-year-old.
Singh and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi were seen smiling.
Taking a dig at the BJP, Sidhu claimed that under Singh the economy “galloped like an Arabian horse” and is now moving at the pace of turtles. “It is like going to the zoo and watching turtles race by,” Sidhu said to loud cheers from those in attendance.
The former cricketer, who is now a minister in Captain Amarinder Singh’s government in Punjab, is known for his mastery over words with which he weaves puns and phrases that go viral on social media. In fact, his one-liners are collectively called ‘Sidhuisms’.
