With the Centre sanctioning Rs 5,600 crore for giving a facelift to the telecom sector, Odisha will get 5G telecom services before January 26.

Union Telecom and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this at the stone laying ceremony of the redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway station on Thursday.

“Now, no one can make an allegation that the Centre is neglecting Odisha’s telecom sector”, Vaishnaw said in a veiled reference to ruling BJD’s often-repeated central neglect plank.

“The allegations that Odisha was being neglected in the telecom sector are simply publicity stunts. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned Rs 5,600 crore to Odisha for the sector. The PM has shouldered the responsibility to provide 4G services to villages of Odisha. There is no veracity in the allegations that Odisha is being neglected in the telecom sector”, asserted Vaishnaw.

Vaishnaw, the minister of railways, communications, electronics and information technology, said a survey was recently conducted in all villages of Odisha where mobile towers are not available.

The 5G services would be available in at least four cities of Odisha by March 2023, and 80 per cent area of the state will have access to the upgraded network by the end of the next year, the union minister said.
