Three Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants were gunned down and five security men sustained injuries in a gunfight in Tral area of Pulwama district, police said.
The gunfight that started on Tuesday and ended late evening.
The police have confirmed that all three JeM militants hiding in Nazneenpora village of Tral area had been killed by the security forces.

“The slain militants include one Pakistan national and two locals. Five security personnel including one CRPF jawan and four Army soldiers have been injured,” said a police officer.

Following specific information about three militants hiding in Nazneenpora village of Tral area, troops of Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu & Kashmir Police surrounded the village.
As the security forces tightened the cordon around hiding militants, they fired at the security forces triggering a gunfight that ended with the killing of the three JeM militants.
This was the first anti-militancy operation in J&K after the Bharatiya Janata party withdrew support from the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led coalition government headed by Mehbooba Mufti.
The state has been placed under Governor’s Rule which as per the J&K Constitution can last for three months. This is the eighth time in the last four decades when Governor’s Rule has been imposed in the state.
The three-year-old BJP-PDP government in Jammu and Kashmir collapsed on Tuesday after BJP pulled out of the alliance. Mehbooba Mufti submitted her resignation to Governor N N Vohra moments after BJP general secretary Ram Madhav made the announcement. She said her party would not enter into any other alliance to stay in the government, and that “muscular security policy” would not work in J-K.
The PDP called the BJP’s decision a surprise, which came after the BJP high command summoned its Jammu and Kashmir ministers for emergency consultations in New Delhi.
