Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Monday said the Congress government was ready for a floor test after the BJP in the state said the Nath-led government should prove majority in the Assembly.

“They (BJP) have been trying this since day 1; we have proved majority at least four times in the last five months; they want to do it again, but we have no problem. They will try their best to disturb the present government to save themselves from getting exposed. The government is ready for a floor test,” Nath was quoted as saying by ANI in response to Leader of Opposition in Assembly Gopal Bhargava’s demand.

Kamal Nath further said he has trust on the Congress MLAs and claimed that at least 10 MLAs were getting phone calls from where they are being offered money and posts.

After the exit polls predicted a bounce back for the NDA in Madhya Pradesh after the Assembly election setback, Bhargava said he was writing a letter to the Governor to call a special session of the Assembly because people had lost confidence in the Kamal Nath government.

He said he will ask Governor Anandiben Patel to convene a special session of the state Assembly “to discuss important issues and test the Congress government’s strength”.

I am writing a letter to the Governor for convening a special session of MP Assembly shortly. We want discussion important issues like the farm loan waiver and (to) test the government strength, Bhargava told PTI.

Meanwhile, the Congress accused the BJP of attempting to destabilise the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh through use of “corrupt practices” and said in doing so they are trying to negate the mandate of people of the state.

Congress general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Deepak Babariya said the people of the state had rejected the BJP and voted them out in the assembly elections due to their “misgovernance”.

Gopal Bhargava said the exit polls had got it right in 2014 and that there would be an encore on May 23. “The Congress will get just 2-3 seat in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP will get a majority and the Modi government will be formed,” he said.

In Madhya Pradesh, the NDA is projected to return after the Assembly poll setback, say both Jan Ki Baat and the IANS-CVoter. They have projected 24 and 21-24 seats for the NDA. For the UPA, the CVoter has predicted 21-24 seats, and Jan Ki Baat 5-8 seats.

The Congress has 114 and the BJP 109 MLAs in the state Assembly. The Congress government which fell short by two seats of halfway mark in the 230-seat assembly is supported by the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party.
