Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated BJP leaders whose names featured in the party’s first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and expressed confidence that 140 crore Indians will bless them and give even more strength.

“Our Party has announced candidates for some of the seats and will be announcing the rest in the coming days. I congratulate all those who have been nominated as our Party’s candidates and wish them the very best,” Modi said.

The prime minister said that his party is going to the people on the basis of its track record of good governance.

“We are going to the people on the basis of our track record of good governance and ensuring the fruits of progress reach the poorest of the poor. I am sure that the 140 crore people of India will bless us yet again and give us even more strength in fulfilling their aspirations and creating a Viksit Bharat,” he added.

Earlier today, the BJP announced its first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The list has covered 16 states and two Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, West Bengal and Jharkhand.

The BJP announced candidates on 51 seats from Uttar Pradesh, 20 from West Bengal, 24 from Madhya Pradesh, 15 each from Gujarat and Rajasthan, 12 from Kerala, 9 seats from Telangana, 11 from Assam, 11 each from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, 5 from Delhi, 2 from J&K, 3 from Uttarakhand, 2 from Arunachal Pradesh and 1 each from Goa, Tripura, Andaman & Nicobar and Daman & Diu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contest the Lok Sabha elections from his sitting Varanasi constituency, while Home Minister Amit Shah will once again be the BJP candidate from Gandhinagar.
